Memories and greetings from Uroš Pavlovčič

Uroš Pavlovčič placed third at the Vitranc Cup in December 2001.

"This is definitely my most beautiful memory of competing on home turf, because the feeling when you step on the winners' podium is something utterly wonderful," says Uro.

His memories of the competition itself date back to the years when Bojan Kriaj and Ingemar Stenmark were competing for the best placements on the old racecourse just behind the petrol station. At that time, he was  just a spectator, watching the competition standing by the the ski piste. He also remembers the race when the Slovenian skier Rok Petrovi won the competition - he was watching it and cheering as a fan.

Then Uro Pavlovi (a member of the Ski Club  Dovje - Mojstrana) eventuallly started his own skiing career. First as a forerunner on Mt. Vitranc, and then as a competitor. He first competed at the Vitranc Cup in the season 1991-1992. There was pure ice on the racecourse at the time. And Sergio Bergamelli (1st place) beat Alberto Tomba who finished the race third, by more than two seconds. It was a real sensation at the time, but obviously,  Bergamelli was the best on the most extremely icy racecourse I have ever skied on, recalls Uro, who later lived and coached junior athletes in the United States for several years and now he lives in Dovje with his family - his wife and his two sons, aged five and nine.

At the Alpine Ski Club Kranjska Gora, he now coaches eight boys and two girls under his auspices, and Uro hopes that in a few years' time some of them will be successful on a global scale.

Uro wishes the Vitranc Cup many more successful competitions!
