Memories and Greetings from Jure Košir

The successful former Slovenian alpine skier Jure Košir, also a member of the local Alpine Ski Club Kranjska Gora, fondly remembers his competing days in the World Cup caravan at home on the slopes of Mt. Vitranc.

Sincere congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the Vitranc Cup. This is a really long era. But come to think of it, Ive actually been involved in this competition myself for 40 years. Sometimes as a spectator, as a worker, as a fore-runner and 15 years as a competitor, and now again as a spectator and a fan.

I have had a myriad interesting experiences in Kranjska Gora, especially during my career as a competitor. Lots of nice moments, and also a few bitter ones. But what is really deeply etched in my memory, is the first World Cup race I ever competed in when I was 18 years old. I skied really great, but fell just before the finish line. One of my fondest memories was, of course, my victory in Kranjska Gora, which was really wonderful and which I was so very happy about and which enriched my career very nicely.

I also really like to remember my second place with Albert Tomba. The Vitranc Cup has always been something special for us Slovenian skiers. We can be really proud to have this competition and therefore I wish you lots of luck and successful competitions in the future! I hope I will experience and see the 100th anniversary of the Vitranc Cup!
