Gruba’s Memorial a Success
There were 159 skiers at the start of the raceThe Gruba’s memorial held in memory of the tragically deceased Alpine skier Drago Grubelnik took place in Kranjska Gora yesterday. Drago Grubelnik died in a car accident on the way from the glacier in Sölden in 2015. He was 39 years old. There were many famous names from the sports and music world at the start of the memorial. Kranjska Gora’s Mayor Janez Hrovat started the race. He was followed by Croatian skier Ivica Kostelić, Austrian skiers Christian Mayer and Bernhard Knauss, and Slovenian skiers: Jure Košir, Rene Mlekuž, Urška Hrovat, Špela Pretnar, Alenka Dovžan, Mitja Dragšič, Matjaž Vrhovnik and Mitja Valenčič. Musicians, Tomi Meglič, Grega Skočir and Matjaž Jelen also attacked the slalom poles. Maks, Drago Grubelnik’s son, also skied. The proceeds from registered skiers and some donations from major Slovenian companies go to the seven-member family from Carinthia, who found itself in social distress.
